Visit Roslyn Chapel, Scotland

The famous Rosslyn Chapel is located seven miles south of Edinburgh but is well worth a trip. Once inside you’ll be stepping in the footsteps of Mary Queen of Scots, Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott and the countless thousands of visitors who have fallen under the spell of this mysterious little church.

Founded in 1446 by Sir William St Clair of Orkney, Rosslyn Chapel is steeped in history. The chapel has survived countless wars, invading armies, the destructive vandalism of the 1559 Reformation, and more of the same during the Glorious Revolution of1688. Oliver Cromwell’s troops even used it as a stable for their horses in 1650.

In recent years the film and book of ‘The Da Vinci Code’ brought global fame to Rosslyn Chapel. But long before Dan Brown’s novel was published many legends had grown up around the chapel.

But what mysteries and secrets does it really hold? What do the strange carvings mean? What is buried beneath the ancient pillars? What are its connections with the history of Freemasonry, the Knights Templar and the Holy Grail?

The best way to find out is to go there. Catch a number 15 bus on Princes Street (the shops’ side), pay £1.10, and you will be at Rosslyn Chapel in about 30 minutes. Times vary but it is open 7 days a week, and costs £7.50/£16. Under-16s get in free.

Prices may be subject to change during peak season, please check with individual companies.
