Edinburgh City Zoo

Raining or sunny, one place that is sure to make for a great day trip out is Edinburgh Zoo. An adult day ticket costs around £10, while a child is around £8, so be sure to get here early to make a full day of it. The Zoo has just opened its new Chimpanzee house which it is especially proud of, but the Rainbow Forrest where you can feed the Parrots nectar from little bowls is also great fun. All the usual animal suspects are here from lions, tigers, polar bears, monkeys, rhinos & manned wolves to seals and pink flamingos. There is a restaurant for lunch and lots of play-parks with climbing frames and slides for the kids. Edinburgh Zoo has been built on Corstorphine Hill, so if you find walking up hills difficult, catch the Safari Bus (which is free) and enjoy the zebras and views of Edinburgh from the top of the hill before zigzagging back down, making sure to be around the penguins enclosure after lunch as they come out to do the Penguin Parade just after 2pm.
