Edinburgh City Sport CentresSometimes a “haar” (east-coast mist) can envelope Edinburgh first thing in the morning, however this is usually burnt off mid-morning by the sun, but if it’s raining or “dreich” as we call it locally (misty, cold, drizzly and overcast), Edinburgh can seem a very grey place indeed. This is when it’s time to explore the indoor attractions. Just around the corner from the Herald House Hotel is the Fountain Park Complex. Here you can access Virgin Active where there’s a swimming pool, gymnasium and a crèche for the little ones - a day pass costs £12 per adult, the Herald House Hotel can offer a dicounted £8 pass to residents. If you feel like treating yourself, they have their own spa and beauty centre there, although it’s advisable to book these treats beforehand. Later, you can see what’s on at the Cinema (Cineworld) or go Ten Pin Bowling all within the same complex. Hunger will not be a problem here as there is a decent Italian restaurant as well as the usual snack type offerings at the Cinema and Ten Pin Bowling. Edinburgh Council also has its own Leisure Centres where you can swim or gym and. Closest to the Hotel is the Dalry Swimming Baths which are walkable in around 10 minutes or grab a bus and head for the Commonwealth Pool where you can swim, gym or enjoy a Costa Coffee while the little ones play in “Clambers” soft play. Prices may be subject to change during peak season, please check with individual companies |
